Planning and Performance Support

Planning and Performance Support includes two Departments: Strategic and Contingency Planning and Performance Measurements. Together, these departments represent the Planning and Performance “Cycle” in Auxiliary leadership and management. This cycle involves planning for the future, measure our performance against our plan, and taking corrective action to perform at the highest level possible.

These are two brand new Departments with no historical role in the Auxiliary. As a result, we are developing these Departments from “scratch,” with no preconceptions or bias toward any particular organization structure or procedural limitations. This is a blessing and a curse: a blessing because we are free to establish the best systems possible, a curse because we have no experience or direction upon which to rely. It is a challenge and an opportunity: a challenge because we have to build everything without the benefit of a past to look to, an opportunity because we can build the best systems without interference.

We also have the distinction of interacting with every member and every unit in the Auxiliary. Each of us will be expected to participate in the Planning and Performance Cycle. Our Planning and Performance will be influenced and directed by the relationships of our units to each other and to the Coast Guard units we support. We will be mindful at all times of our duty to do the best possible job for our colleagues as well as our customers: the Coast Guard and the boating public. We hope you will be intrigued and motivated to participate in the Cycle actively, enhancing your performance as an individual as well as a member of the Team.
